The world’s population is ageing, and many consumers believe the retail world is not ready for this change in demographic profile. In Ireland, the number of people aged over 65 has doubled in the last 20 years from about 400,000 to 800,000 in 2023, equating to around 15pc of the population. This statistic is expected to rise towards 1.5 million by 2050.
